The Vilnius City Municipality has announced that the Christmas season is open

What? The Vilnius City Municipality has announced that the Christmas season is open

Where? Vilnius Town Hall

When? November 25th, 2014

Let’s knead our dough. First, a fine powdering of white flour snows down onto our warm, fragrant butter. Did you know that your dough will be fluffier if you sift the flour through a sieve first? We gently stretch out our golden lump of dough on the table, caress it, thank it, and shoot it into the oven, where other shapes – hearts, fir trees and moons – await it. Still fragrant, we drizzle them with a mist of Christmas confectioner’s sugar: red, white, sweet. They smell like a happy home and smiling family members. There’s no other way to put it! There’s nothing special about cooking a plate of cookies, you might say. But only when every wave of your hand is filled with love will your food be blessed by angels.

Christmas holiday menu

There are ladies who don’t like to cook. There are also those who don’t have the time or whose guests arrive unexpectedly, leaving them with no time to bake their fragrant cakes. Besides, it’s better to spend your final moments before the celebration getting dressed up in front of a mirror rather than in a store picking a cake. The ladies at Skonio Slėnis love to bake and will make what you need on time – all that’s left is your desire.

A proper business lunch: People become nicer after eating well

White tablecloths, low prices, good food and even better service – these are four things that Lithuanians expect from a good business lunch. What makes a good business lunch? How can you know that a restaurant’s kitchen is clean? Why shouldn’t you hurry to leave your table? “Hurry slowly” is a Latin saying that has survived to the present day. Jolanta and Dalius Šlapelis, the owners of the Skonio Slėnis restaurant being opened at the BOD high-tech centre, believe in this saying wholeheartedly.

Business lunches can be lunches meant for discussing business matters or the daily lunch selections that most of us are used to. The standard business lunch takes about 1.5 hours. This relaxed lunch, more free with its time and finances than most, is meant for businesspeople. The business lunch is no less important of a ritual than observing which individual first offers their hand for a handshake. It seems insignificant, but it can decide a lot – someone’s mannerisms, the atmosphere, and even what food one orders. Daily lunches, on the other hand, are brief lunches that can be had during one’s break from work.

A swinging evening

Our hosts know that guests must be greeted warmly. Mead with hot apple juice and sea-buckthorn berries always lifts guests’ spirits and warms them up so that smiling would come more naturally. The museum was home to more than just technological inventions – there were floral inventions, too! A bouquet of flowers with fruit and red rowan berries matched so well with the cold metal, it seemed as though everything the hosts touched was made warm.
